Roman Catholic Diocese of Vincennes, Indiana

The Diocese of Vincennes (Vinneapolitan(us)) was created on May 6, 1834 by Pope Gregory XVI. On March 28, 1898, the name of the diocese was changed to what is now the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis.[1] In 1944, the old episcopal see of Vincennes, Indiana became part of the newly created Roman Catholic Diocese of Evansville.[2]

In 1995, the Diocese of Vincennes was restored as a titular see and Bishop Gerald Eugene Wilkerson was the first one to have the titular see.[3]
